Started making in 1989
I was in Connecticut last weekend, and while I was there, my grandmother asked if I could come over so that she could give me a present.
I sat in her living room with my eyes closed while my mom made a lot of noise unzipping and flapping and arranging, and when I finally got to open my eyes, I saw this rug.
This beautiful rug that my grandmother started making in 1989 to give me when I got married. She finished in 1992, so it's been ready and waiting for quite some time. Of course, I was six at the time, so really, it's a good thing I wasn't ready for it.

Julie, that is SO beautiful!
ReplyDeleteHow thoughtful of your grandmother! That will be such a wonderful heirloom with a great story to share one tday with your children.
Julie, this is so special!!
ReplyDeleteWhat's the technique? I can't even imagine making something as intricate as that.
Thanks, ladies!
ReplyDeleteBeth, it's called Vestamayd. I just looked for a simple explanation online, but couldn't find one. Basically, you have a rug backing, and use a punch needle and yarn to make the design (which is outlined on the backing). My grandmother taught classes on how to do it for years!
oh my gosh, i am so impressed! She made that?!
ReplyDeleteOh, this is so sweet! It's beautiful. I'm sure you can't wait to put it in your home.
ReplyDeleteWhat a special and beautiful gift!!
ReplyDeleteThanks, everyone! I'm in the process of rearranging the rugs in the apartment a bit to accomodate this beauty. I'm so excited!
