Goodbye to all that

Peter and I have been thinking about moving away from New York for some time, and all of a sudden, the idea of it became a reality. In July, we'll be moving to the Boston-area!

It feels a bit bittersweet, even though we're very excited about our upcoming move. We have a lovely life here. Jobs we adore, a darling little apartment, a group of very dear friends, and an endless list of restaurants to try. But living in New York long-term requires deep reserves of love for the city. It can be an incredibly fun place to live, but also incredibly challenging.

In the next couple of months we're going to do our best to take advantage of all the fantastic things this city has to offer. We've even made a big official list of things we'd like to do (and eat!) in that time. In all likelihood, we won't be able to do it all, but we decided to go for an inclusive rather than exclusive approach. The cream shall rise to the top! I'll be crossing things off and blabbity blogging along the way.

Tell me, what would be on your list? Any can't miss stuff in NYC I should add?

  1. What?!?!?! Just as we found each other's blogs?!? This is bittersweet for sure. Congratulations on the move - you'll be close enough that you can visit often if you don't knock everything off your list!

Definitely make sure you hit Caracas though. Eleven Madison Park is the other one I would move to the top (granted, it is on the other end of the cost spectrum!).

I cannot even imagine what I would try to fit in. It makes me really, really sad to even think about it!

  2. WOW! This is big news! First, I'll start by congratulating you both. Boston is very lucky to have you two.

I think it's fun that you two have your own New York "Bucket List," if you will. We made sure to check out the Cloisters, walk the Brooklyn Bridge, go to Coney Island...lots of fun touristy stuff. This is a great time to be a tourist in your own city!

Can't wait to hear all the details very soon!

  7. Kate, thank you for your restaurant suggestions! I know from your fab eating page that you have top-notch taste in this department (literally!).

Ashley, we've never had a real day at Coney Island. Maybe that should be added!

Kate, ha, Times Square and I will have to say goodbye to each other privately since Peter won't go near it!

Thank you all so much for your well wishes and excitement!

  10. You cannot leave NYC before you:

    1. Picnic in Central Park on the Great Lawn in the early evening.

    2. Picnic at Pier One looking at Manhattan.

    3. Walk in Pelham Bay Park (Bronx) and eat on City Island

    4. Eat clam chowder at The Pearl Oyster Bar on Cornelia Street

    5. Eat Gabrielle Hamilton's burger at Prune on East 1st Street

    6. Eat David Chang's pork buns at Momofuku on 2nd Ave

    7. Sit under the planes trees beside beautiful flowers at the Battery Conservancy Garden near the ferry terminal. And wonder what has possessed you to leave.

    8. Eat the Plateau de Fruits de Mer at Balthazar on Spring Street.

    9. Walk south down Crosby Street at 7am.

    10. Eat the prix fixe lunch at Gotham Bar and Grill.

If you must go to Coney Island eat raw clams at Nathan's midweek. Interesting people watching. :-)
