I had this project on my list for Crafty February, but as you can see, we are now in the Ides of March (beware!). A little late, what can you do?
This is half a yard of a Waverly fabric (it has some kind of cute-ish name like, "So Stripey!" that's escaping me right now).
I folded the fabric in half the long way and stitched that together inside out, being extra sure my stripes were lined up correctly. I'm not usually like that, but stripes, man. They are tricky! Then I closed off the ends right side out, because pickiness can only last so long.
I wanted to make it double sided because as my mom said, "Runners get gross!" Ha. They do, though. So, nice to be able to flip it over after
P.S. Don't mind the gaping hole in my $3.99 TJ's bouquet. A Gerber daisy that formerly inhabited that hole bit the dust shortly before these photos were taken!
Diane B. is so right--they do get gross! Your runner looks fabulous, and nothing's better than a cheery bouquet.
ReplyDeleteThis so cute Julie! Do you have a sewing machine now, or did you do this by hand? I feel intimidated by the idea of a sewing machine but much less so by hand-sewing . . .

DeleteI do have a sewing machine now, and I used it here. It took me a very long time to get over my fear of the machine (and it still sort of scares me - I can only do a basic, straight line stitch, and I still mess up threading it every time I use it). You certainly could make a runner by hand - I always told myself before I started using my machine, "People in the olden days sewed all kinds of great things without machines!" But it's definitely faster with one.
Do you have a machine you're too scared to use, or not yet? And p.s. did you make lamb yet?!
I don't have a machine but I am occasionally tempted by the idea of buying one! I should probably get a few hand projects under my belt first (instead of procrastinating for months on basic mending . . . ).

Another great sewing project down! This turned out great, I really like the colors and of course the stripes.
